If you buy the "used-like new" the price is $30 and you can still get the battery pack for free. I've had good luck so far with these open box items.

I haven't had a docking station overheat, but I treat it like my laptop and other power-eating electronics and always have it raised off the desk so it can get airflow on all sides for cooling.

i wouldn't chalk it up to user error, considering they're clearly designed to be used under the laptop, and thus (you would think) helping with airflow. have you used this style of docking station, without built-in active cooling, designed to be placed directly under the laptop? there's a lot out there like this, but presumably all are using the same chipsets that overheat eventually, or even heat up the laptop. it's an easy tell looking at the external monitor support.

i had one literally on top of a laptop cooling pad with two fans and it still died (and fried my portable external hard drive, still mad about that). i currently have one of the short tower-style vertical ones, and it's been mostly reliable, but still occasionally disconnects and reconnects while i'm doing nothing (not even jiggling the cable or anything).

I wasn't trying to imply user error. Just that I'm more realistic about it's use than it's marketing material. I wouldn't place it under the laptop like that because it would reduce airflow for both itself and the laptop. My laptop works sitting on a desk, but I always keep it on a laptop cooling pad because it works better that way. The fans in it run less and it thermal throttles less. I treat the docking station similarly. I keep air access all around it rather than having it set directly on a desk, or directly against a heat producing laptop.

huycao is correct. you get the wireless charger free with the $30 ULN one too. You have to add the charger to your cart 1st (because the link is gone) but when both are in the cart the charger is free.

Yep, can confirm it still works, as long as you add the charger first. Just ordered both the charger and the ULN dock for $30 before tax. You can find the charger by clicking 'Claim free item', then switch the view to Benefit Items on the left.

Plus, most of them are actively cooled when they get up in the higher price ranges
