The FIREBAT A6 looks like a compact Ryzen 7 mini PC that is strong for HTPC use, retro gaming, emulation, web browsing, and light server tasks like Jellyfin or Plex. It is also described as capable of 4K output and easy to tuck behind a monitor or pair with a TV setup. The main limits are the soldered 16GB LPDDR5 memory, which runs at 4,800 Mbps, and the uncertain upgrade path beyond the extra M.2 SSD slot. There are also warnings about preinstalled Windows and software, with advice to wipe the drive and reinstall the operating system on arrival. A practical small box if you want solid everyday performance without expecting much future expansion.

Common Questions (5)

  • It should handle HTPC use, Jellyfin or Plex, retro emulators, and even some PS3 or Switch 1 emulation. It is also capable of 4K output, so it can work well as a TV-connected media box or browser-based streaming setup.

  • Yes, it is described as a solid deal even after fees, and it should be more than enough for office tasks, web browsing, email, and running Plex. The main caveat is that 16GB may feel cramped over time if you want a longer upgrade path.

  • It has an available M.2 slot for a second SSD, but the 16GB LPDDR5 RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded. The RAM is dual-channel, but the speed is 4,800 Mbps rather than 6,400 Mbps.

  • Yes. The preinstalled Windows/software on a previous Firebat mini PC reportedly contained malware, so wiping the SSD and reinstalling Windows or Linux is the safest first step.

  • Not always. One checkout path showed the cart at $286.94 but changed to $425.80 at payment, and the coupon also failed on mobile.

Genuine question, what do you use this for?
File server like Jellyfin or retro emulators. Also pretty good web browser.

I'm assuming this would be fine for 4k YouTube on a TV in my gym?

It seems its cheaper than the sum of cost of parts? How can this be possible?

HTPC or you could clip it to the back of a monitor if you do not need a full size desktop.

Good price for a machine that actually includes an SSD. But it has no upgrade path, and that 16 gigs will feel awfully cramped soon.
If your goal is just a very competant office machine or something to run your AI agents, this firebat is great for that. Will do emulation with aplomb as well up to (some) PS3 and (some) Switch1.

You can get the AOOSTAR Maco for $50 more...and if you can stomach the extra cost and add your own SSD (not trivial), the system will last far longer because of the extra 8 gigs (Apple, is that you?), But its the oculink port will let you grow past the 680m whenever you need to. This chip is bound to serve you longer on the CPU side than the GPU side, and Oculink bandwidth is more than enough for AAA titles.

N.B., I bought a firebat mini PC a while back. The hardware is fine but I found almost 50 viruses in the pre installed Windows and other software. Best practice is to wipe the SSD clean as soon as you get it and reinstall windows or Linux.
This is coming out of the PRC, so that not unsurprising ! I would do the same thing (reformat the darned SSD and reinstall the OS).

Parts purchased a while ago with the price locked in seems to be the easiest way for vendors to still be able to sell these decent components. All around a solid deal.

If I were to get one, it would become my main home computer.

I missed the firebat A5P deal last time that comes with the better CPU, better GPU, and normal DDR5 back from November. Wondering if I should settle for this one.
that one was a nice hot deal ever and there was a $210 7640hs 16+1t minisforum deal as sweet as hell
