Love ours.

One obvious thing to note is that the outlets show their last status in the Home app even when it's unplugged. We use it mostly for holidays, so I hide them from the Home view.

I believe those are the EP40 model, not Apple Home compatible.

I've had one of these sitting outside untouched since before covid controlling my deck lights and everything still works perfectly.

Same! Mines gotta be 10 years old now. Lasts through Chicago winters. Obviously an older model, but I'd buy it again.

I just set up an indoor kasa wifi smart outlet that I'm using outside my back door in a waterproof box to run the pool pump. Via the kasa app, it worked fine while setting up and testing inside, stopped working once plugged in outside. Then linked it to smartthings and it works fine controlled by smartthings. After using it in the ST app, the kasa app was finally able to control it.

Solid outlets. I have had several for years surviving outdoor heat and cold extremes.

i have two of these that have been outside (somewhat undercover) for the past 2 years. they have been rock solid despite a thick covering of dust/pollen/spider webs/etc. A good 150'+ and several walls away from my router. Never lost connection, always super responsive to both Alexa and app control (knock wood!!)

Yeah TP Link sucks. These in theory should work by simply just using your home network. There's no need for them to have access the internet.. Yet when you block them from the internet but still allow them on our local network, they stop working completely.

They need to reach tp-link cloud to be available for any commands through Alexa or to check any schedules u have them on. The only way to use them locally is by using HA but even for that u need to connect to the Internet for the initial setup.
