If you want to move a whole lot of data all at once, they are extremely useful. The time saved from writing to a hard drive vs a fast USB 3.2 or faster SSD can be considerable.

I use a 1TB for work for user profile migrations when the profiles are sometimes hundreds of gigabytes. (badgecam / patrol vids)

For non-work needs, I have a 2TB USB Micron SSD for saving my emulator collection for easy and fast copies. My true backup is another handful of USB hard drives, as you can't rely on SSDs for long-term storage due to their inherent drawbacks.
