These are junk. If you use the laser and there's bright light the unit can't see the dim laser flashing so it won't work. And when you pull the tape out, there is a spring loaded button on the bottom and the tape is supposed to stay out until you press the button, but the spring is too weak so it's slowly goes back in so I contacted the company and they sent me another one and it did the same thing. I took it all apart and stretched out the spring a little bit and now it works, but it was very difficult to take apart and put back together. Buy something else it's not worth it.

99% of my uses are indoors as I think is the case for most DIYers. For the rare outdoor use, I'll get out the old fashion measuring tape.

Sigh, the people buying this for the physical tape measure or thinking this is for super professional use. The tape measure is just supplemental, it's a digital tape measure, that is its use 99% of the time. Also the laser level is nice. I use mine mostly for area measurements, nothing else can do that as far as I know. Can you calculate in your head the square footage of a room that is 15 feet 3 inches by 12 feet 7 inches? I know I can't. This can. Let me know how your physical tape measure works when you are in a room all by yourself that is like 25 feet long and you need to measure it. I have another digital tape measure that is more professional by Mileseey with lasers on both ends and in the middle and that thing is crazy, can even measure a wall on the outside of a building.
