They also have an option to record everything offline to a local storage, I just plug in a USB drive to sync module

And this lets you bypass the subscription?

I don't need to argue here, no stakes in the company 🤷

Just sharing alternate options for those who are considering to buy.

Right, but he is asking…is the functionality you are getting with the USB drive as good as the subscription service they want you to buy?

There are some improvements with the subscription: person specific detection, more detailed notifications, automatic deletion of old videos, a slightly smoother video interface.

But for normal stuff (recording based on motion triggers, getting basic motion notifications, viewing live or recordings) the sync module 2 + usb drive works well.

It's not, subscription gives you cloud storage (till you keep renewing subscription). Local storage doesn't have such limits, only downside is speed of accessing recorded videos. I usually check live/recorded videos when I am away, takes 5-6 seconds to load video, but ok with minor inconvenience than paying subscription.

In short, it all depends on individual needs, but just sharing that subscription fee is not a deal breaker if you can live with local storage.
