they're talking about intake and exhaust hoses. without an intake hose connected to the window opening, it sucks the cooled air from inside the house and blows it outside which is very inefficient.

I never understood why so many floor AC manufacturers show promotional photos that look like that. To be fair, this is also a dehumidifier but showing it in AC mode seems like it would be a minimum requirement
