Blink does not require a subscription for full functionality. Everything will work without it. I've used blink cameras for over 5 years.

A Blink camera subscription has several benefits, including motion-activated notifications, rapid video access, live streaming, a 60-day video history, video sharing capabilities.

I would consider motion activated notifications and live streaming access to be part of "full functionality".
I do not want to pay a monthly fee for a feature that should be included

Smart Detection is a newer feature that simply provides more detailed notifications. For example, it can tell you whether the motion was caused by a person walking down the street or identify the color of a passing vehicle.
It's completely optional and not required. You'll still receive the same motion alerts and video recordings without it. The only difference is that the notification won't specify what triggered the alert. Best of all, there is no subscription required to continue receiving motion alerts and video clips. You aren't missing out on anything but AI telling you what the motion is before you see the video. I currently have 12 Blink cameras. I think I know a thing or two about the service

I've used blink cameras also for five years and you need a home module with usb or SD card capabilities to have full functionality. I noticed the newer modules do NOT have the USB or SD card option forcing you to buy the subscription for full functionality. 5 years ago you were correct.
