Just buy it. You'll throw away everything else you have ever split with. I've been using one of these for probably 10 years, we heat with wood for the majority. We have a hydraulic wood splitter the last 4 years now that we are in our mid 60's, but I still like to split down some smaller stuff with this just for the exercise and the joy of using it. And I have whacked the handle on a log enough times to know they aren't lying when they say it's unbreakable! As a mid 60's old lady this allows me to split all but the toughest knotty spruce. While you are at it, get the hatchet too. Just as great a tool as the axe.

I recently bought the x36 and needed a shorter second axe so that I could get my nephew to start splitting some wood too. I was previously using a maul and after using these fiskars axes for splitting I will never go back.

It's only 2 lb, yet 28 inch long. Seems a bit too light for two hands, too long for one hand. I find it's best to use a heavier ax without excess swing force, instead of swing a light ax fast. The later probably better for a fight.

Their specs page is wrong. The x25 has a 4lb head and 1.5 lb handle.

Reviews on Amazon seem to indicate there are some variations in X25 models?

One of the reviews says the listed X25 has the 2lb head while the "all black" handle model had the "real" 4lb head. Probably good to verify what you are getting.

Good price on a great splitting ax that was made all the way over in Finland.

Buy one or two as gifts for a friend that has a fire pit or a wood stove. They're going to love it.

X25 and Black 28 inch are two different models.

The Fiskars X25 has a large 4lb head like the X27, while the Black 28" Splitting Axe has a medium-sized 2.5lb head meant for smaller logs or smaller users. It actually matches the X21 which is a medium-size axe not available in North America.

I've wanted this for years ever since it once was like $20 on Amazon but that was maybe a decade ago
