A good use case is setting up a new laptop and you didn't have the previous drivers backed up. Most laptops today don't have Ethernet ports.

These work well, but for a few dollars more you can get one with extra-USB ports as well.

I have found if I need to add ethernet to a device via USB A or C, I probably need a few extra USB ports too. It makes sense to combine them into one device.
