Great little dehydrator for small jobs. I've had this for a few years and have used it to dehydrate apples, bananas, strawberries, etc for the kids to make healthier snacks. Obviously not for large scale operations, but if you were interested in seeing what dehydrating food was about, this is a great entry point machine and price.

Entry level machine sure, but if you want to skip entry level the Nesco FD-80 has 14.5" x 14.5" trays. I've been making jerky for a couple of months now and using the Nesco a lot. I added four additional trays and I can easily do 5 lbs of jerky at a time. It costs twice as much as the Hamilton Beach, but it's still less expensive than those large steel cabinet types. Both the HB and Nesco are dishwasher safe, but you have to handle them gently when placing in the dishwasher. Also, they'll come out perfectly clean if you use non-stick sprays before dehydrating. It make a big difference in removing the dehydrated food too, much easier.

Agree with this. The batches we do definitely don't last too long, which is a good thing because the kids go through them quick. It's more seasonal for us and the kids, but if we were more committed, we'd definitely get something larger!
