It comes stinky like rubber if I remember correctly. That passes.
I like this design because coffee drips, scratches, or an accidental mark just blend into the design. The all-black designs "fade" over time (which I can only assume is built up skin cells) which this hides well?
The short answer is texture. Every mouse pad has a different type of texture. Your mouse will glide easier on a smooth texture surface. On a somewhat rough texture, you'll have more control and precision.
The Corsair one has a silky texture feel to it. The smooth silky texture does wear out over time where ever you touch or rub against the most through. This one is also somewhat water resistance because of the silky texture. So if you do happen to spill a drink or water on it, it doesn't absorb into the pad immediately, a puddle forms and sits on top of the pad, you have time to go grab a towel to wipe away the liquid. Since its a smooth texture, it doesn't grab the dead skin from your wrist and forms a white spot on the mouse pad. Easy to wipe down with a wet cloth, or even throw it in the bath tub with some dawn dish soap, then hang dry outside. You can even use a lint roller on top to grab dust or whatever. The edges around this pad are stitched so it doesn't fray. The top pad and the bottom rubber grip pad are all stitched together all around.
A normal mouse pad such as one from amazon comes in the regular rough texture. These not only absorbs any liquid you spill on it immediately, but it also gets dirty quicker. It absorbs hand / wrist moisture, and since the texture is a tad rough, it'll collect dead skin much easier, and over time you'll see a white spot form where your wrist sits or from rubbing your wrist around that area. These are a bit harder to clean since you'll have to gently scrub those discolored area with a soft brush to loosen up the dirt, dead skin, sweat, lotion, etc. The edges of these pads are usually not stitched which causes fraying or even the top surface eventually lifting up. The top surface are usually glued with some sort of adhesive to the bottom rubber grip pad. The bottom rubber grip pad sometimes doesn't grip to the table because of the material they used, design, or from collecting dust.
