They are clearly matching Target [target.com].

Math teacher here. This is a new model and probably the one to buy if you need one, but the idea that the list price of this is $160 is still hard to fathom.

Totally disagree. As a math teacher myself, I would recommend not getting this one and getting a plain TI-84 CE. The Evo has a menu similar to the Casio, and if you get it, your child is going to end up having to learn how to use it on their own, as the teacher is going to teach to the calculator the majority of the class has, which is not this one. Also, most teachers already have their lessons set up for the regular TI, and they are not going to start making up new ones just for the 1 or 2 kids that buy this new calculator. Buying the Evo would be no different than buying a casio.
And the fact that they are already discounting a brand new model this much says to me they are desperately trying to get people to buy it, because obviously it is not selling well.

Understandable. I'll admit that I haven't actually used this thing much. I used the web emulator a bit in class at the end of the year, but it didn't seem radically different from the regular CE. If you're saying it's so different that a kid would have trouble in a classroom full of CEs, well perhaps it's the case. I kind of bypassed the home screen thing and just did what I usually do, and it felt pretty similar.

Your point about the discounting of a brand new model, though...yeah that's odd for sure. It's only $85 on Woot [woot.com] today, which is more than a bit surprising.
