Fckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk AL is STILL in business???????? how is this even possible, with this tiny niche?

Sold by someone who's only written in Spanish with over 1 million ratings holy cow.... Would be nice to know how loud this is in wattage or something, who cares if it lasts 20 hours if it's like 10 watts.

Not to be, "that guy" but wattage is not a unit of measure for volume. Altec Lansing is not the same company it once was. The bulk of their product offerings seem to lean on the name heavily and have mediocre-to-poor quality. There may be some diamonds in the rough out there but they aren't even considered for most any product category comparison reviews out there because they just won't compete.

Decent reviews online. Looks to be bass heavy, but lacking detail and clarity.
Typical for a speaker featuring flashing lights.

Yeah, they're a "zombie brand" now. Strictly a brand licensing operation. The original Altec Corporation went through a series of bankruptcies and stopped manufacturing decades ago. Their speakers are now rebadged, cheap consumer goods, made by third-party contract manufacturers with zero connection to the original engineers. Similar situation with Nakamichi, Blaupunkt, Acoustic Research, and others.

According to spec sheets, this model IMW1500 is 24 watts

Also the DC charging port is NOT USB, the manual shows a wall wart with a barrel jack.

Just an anecdotal comment here: I'm not in the loop of how Altec Lansing's brand has changed (please trust the other posters here for that info); however, I bought an Altec Lansing Mix 2.0 in 2021, and I've been really happy with it. Lots of poolside, boat and beach usage -- including floating in water (IP67 rated). Plays all day. Loud enough for a small gathering and sounds fine to me. I'm not an audiophile by any means.

Maybe I got lucky with my particular licensed item (Mix 2.0) and other Altec Landing products aren't worth it. Again, anecdotal, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

It should sound good as it has four drivers plus a small woofer. Note that it is a large portable speaker. Specs say it weighs 8 pounds, and it is as long and a little wider than a loaf of bread (per a review pic).

So that kind of proves my point and it's unusual for a company who's actually going downhill to still be alive after like three decades. That's my point

And then just, let's say, for argument's sake, coming from a place of "curiosity", you're saying that there are a ton of speakers out there where a 10-watt speaker is measurably louder in its max usable volume than a 50W speaker? I'm not an audio technician, but that sounds like bad math no matter how you look at it. My personal experience in buying several of these in the past year, it was totally proven that the speakers with higher wattage had a higher max usable volume every single time.

At that price, why take the risk? Buy the Oontz Angle 3 if you want a cheap but very good portable Bluetooth speaker

I do not have this but I find it hard to believe it's comparable to a mega boom. I still have five megablasts and three blasts going strong throughout my home (I have each on a charging base and occasionally have to reset a speaker). I bought most at the beginning of COVID when no one was buying ($50 avg cost of the Blast and under $100 for five of the six Megablasts I bought - one was gifted). The best investment I ever made and it's too bad they're no longer made. Alexa on every speaker is key for me and the two Megablasts I keep in the bedroom in stereo mode sounds nearly as good as my home stereo that today only collects dust.
