surprising to see the 2nd gen already being discounted so much. I wonder if there is competitor brands that are just as good if not better. Personally, I just dont want ANTOHER app to track stuff. If another app is needed though and can track my airtags I already own.......
There are third party devices that use the Find My Network that can be tracked in the same app as AirTags.

However, currently only Apple AirTags have precision finding features. If you have a compatible device it tells you exactly how many feet and in what direction the AirTag is.

I value the precision finding features, so I bought a four pack of the AirTags 2 for my most important items to replace the original AirTags.

If you want AirTags 2 engraved, then they're $29/1 or $99/4 from Apple.
If you have a Costco membership, then they're $99.99/5 from Costco.
Otherwise, they're $24/1 or $89/4 with this deal at Amazon/Walmart.

There were some clearance deals for $59/4 for the first generation AirTags, but those seem to be pretty much gone now.

Airtags are a definite must buy
Why?

I don't understand why I need a company tracking me any more than they already do.

Having an AirTag inside our luggage saved us when some lady grabbed my wife's suitcase at the carousel and walked away with it by mistake. We waited and waited and it never made it to us at the other end. I pinged the AirTag, saw it was still at the airport and walked around until the UWB locked on and honed in on her waiting in line at a taxi stand out front low and behold with my wife's bag.
That would've sucked without the airtag as we'd have been on our own (it wasn't the airline's problem) and had just landed in Kona (Big Island of Hawaii) for two weeks. That right there saved us enough time, frustration and money to justify the entire $99 4-pack! We've got a tag on each set of vehicle keys too.
These new AirTags apparently have over double the UWB range and louder speakers, so I'm biting on a replacement set!

Do you typically lose the keys to your vehicle frequently? I mean, is it not the second-most expensive thing a person typically owns (after a house)?

As for the luggage, not a bad idea. That's about the only justifiable use case I've seen so far.

No I don't typical lose my keys, but my wife puts vehicle keys in her purse and often leaves them there. So if I need to go somewhere and they're not hanging up by the door, then being able to ping them helps me find them... As most married men could probably tell you, there is a reason women lose things in those purses they are big and have an insane amount of little pockets and pouches haha. We've never lost keys in public yet, but piece of mind if they happen to get dropped or something that we may be able to locate them a little easier. For $20 a whack why not, but to each their own.
