I have these and they're pretty good at this price. Sound quality is pretty high and it's the only thing that can connect to my PS Portal. I like that they also connect to my PS5 Pro and can be connected to my phone at the same time. I don't really wear them out since the look is a bit too out there for my tastes and I have the latest Samsung buds. I only use them for my Playstation devices and for that they work well.
PlayStation PULSE Explore earbuds are built for low lag PlayStation use, especially with the PS Portal, while also pairing with a phone at the same time. The standout strengths are the dongle connection, clear sound, and easy switching between PS5 audio and Bluetooth, with some praise for directional audio and the ability to use them instead of a bulky headset. The main drawbacks are the bulky case and earbuds, short battery life around five to six hours, no active noise canceling, and reports of weak mic quality or occasional disconnects. Fit can improve with better tips, making them a more specialized gaming pick than an all day travel earbud.
PlayStation Portal players who want wireless earbuds, because they pair seamlessly with the Portal and can mix game audio with phone audio at the same time.
PS5 players who want a lighter alternative to a bulky headset, because the earbuds are easier to wear in hot rooms and still deliver decent directional audio for casual play.
Yes. It can connect to a PS Portal or PS5 through the PlayStation Link dongle while also pairing to a phone over Bluetooth, so you can hear game audio and phone audio together. That makes it especially useful for handheld gaming, podcasts, or Discord while playing.
At $99 they are a much better value than at the $199 MSRP, especially if you want the Portal/PS5 wireless setup and simultaneous phone audio. If you only need ordinary Bluetooth earbuds for a phone, cheaper options exist.
Battery life is around 5 to 6 hours per charge, with the case adding roughly two more charges. That is enough for a long session, but it is not class-leading and may feel short if you use them heavily for gaming or TV.
It does not have active noise cancellation, and the mic is reported as weak out of the box. Fit and setup can improve both sound and mic performance, but the microphone is still a common complaint.
Yes. Using larger foam or silicone tips and following the insertion instructions can noticeably improve seal, sound, and mic performance. The included small tips can make the audio sound thin or tinny until the fit is corrected.
This is a great price for these earbuds, as long as your main use case is with the Portal. They work fine as Bluetooth earbuds for your phone, but there are cheaper options if that's all you're using them for. I like being able to listen to a podcast while handheld gaming, so in my particular case they're great, and well worth it at this price
I have the pulse elite headset and would rate them pretty highly (very comfortable, around the audio quality you'd expect at the price point with bluetooth instead of wired, and fully integrated with the ps5 software).I was hoping to pick these up just for when I don't feel like wearing a headset, but these other comments are making me reconsider. Are they really so bad they're not even worth it at this $100 price point?
I'm in the same boat as you. Just recently got the Pulse Elite Headset about a month ago at $110. They're pretty great and at this price I figured I'd get the earbuds for when I don't want anything heavy to wear.I ended up buying but may be returning given everyone's feedback about them.
I got it as a gift with my Portal and haven't used them together yet. I mainly use it with my iPhone and PS5 at the same time. It uses a dongle with the PS5.
With the PS5, you can directly control volume via the buttons on the earbuds. With phone, the phone's volume button controls volume.
Game sound quality is good but of course, does not match a wired headset. I normally use the Astro A40 TR without mixamp for shooters like Apex or Valorant. Footsteps and other directional audio are decent with the Explore but I wouldn't use it in ranked games. I even did the audio setup on the PS5 with them. I've been told my mic sounds fine with PS5 discord, PSN party or in-game chat.
Explore is great for when it's too hot to wear a headset or to prevent getting that gamer dent. No mute button on the Explore, so mic is muted via the controller. Battery lasts about 6 hours with gaming and watching TV. PS5 warns about low battery on-screen and with beeps like it does with low battery on a PS5 controller.
I don't like how big the earphones and case are. Bulky case with a sliding mechanism and it feels flimsy unlike an AirPods case. In-ear, they are not discreet. They remind me of those oldschool Motorola earpieces.
I've gotten a few random disconnects before but not enough to make me hate them. Not sure what causes it either.
For me, it is a good alternative to a bulky headset, especially if I'm watching TV on my PS5 or playing games that don't need directional audio. I love that I can connect to my phone and PS5 at the same time and hear sounds from both at the same time. I'll never be that Apex random who loads into a game with sound blasting out of my phone lol. $99 is worth it to me.

Connecting to phone I didn't even think about, nice. I picked them up yesterday. Coming from using 30 dollar Anker p30s, and pulse headset for PS5, it's not bad at all after tweaking it. It sounded shtty and tinny at first but they give you itty bitty tips, I needed the larger ones to keep the sound in. After 2 hours of helldivers 2 and monster hunter wilds some anime testing, it sounds better in ear for me. It's more 3d than immersive 7d headset but I'm not pvping. It works. I wouldn't pay 200 for it, but yea it sounds really good with portal too instead of my wired cheap headset. I was at 50% around 3 hrs of use. I will keep them. Also mic was crappy at first then everything lined up and both mic and sound became good.

I think these sound comfortably better than $40 TWS earphones, BUT I agree with you that they should have come with the PS Portal for free. They're really made for eachother, but neither are worth $200. Together... maybe they're worth $200 total.
Use a 3.5 jack Bluetooth transmitter on the Portal.
