How good of a deal is this? Isn't the air the budget version to begin with anyway?
the neo is the budget version, if youre referring to the air vs the pro the m5 air is still more computer than like 85% of people need. As for price is it's OK, just kind of the standard sale price, probably won't be cheaper except maybe $50 on black friday.

Apple's CEO has stated unequivocally that they will be rising prices due to RAM and SSD markets going crazy.

Very happy with the $799 m4 MacBook Air and jealous the 512GB is now the standard bc 256GB was ridiculous (thankfully I got a SD on a MagSafe 2TB SSD last year). With memory prices the way it's been since last year, most impressive thing was how Apple was able to mitigate increased costs to the consumer for so long that $950 is great before the impending price hike "Tim Apple" said in a recent interview

I think of air as the professional version and pro as the creative version

Why? M-generation Macs have extremely efficiently optimized RAM usage. For most tasks, you can even still get by fine on a 5+ year old M1 with 8GB RAM. 16GB is more than plenty for 95% of users for the foreseeable future.
