I'm so suspicious, at this point, that my first response is to ask "Why?". Why would this be marked down by such a huge percent, even for Prime day(ish).

Yes, it has been priced at $170, but not for long, since this is a new item. Perhaps it's only been pressed this way so they could establish price history that high and then never sell it at that price again, but then legally be able to say it's a high percentage off for future sales, Kohl's-style (like this one).

Is the sync core module the same as a hub? If I buy this, can I then expand my system by purchasing additional blink items and have them run through the sync core module, than the module would connect to my wireless router. Is this correct?

Correct. The module supports up to 10 cameras, but you can also add additional modules to your account. Just notice that a subscription is required for full functionality. If your application allows for this and you're patient enough, each camera added to your system gives you 30 days trial, no matter how many cameras you add. So adding one every month gets you free service for that month or you can count that as a $9.99 discount over each device added.

It has a 2.4 out of 5 rating. Sounds like a bad deal.

I think this might have something to do with why they are so heavily discounted. Many troubled customer reviews with silly problems. One customer can't believe they have released yet another model/version of the cameras without ever fixing the problems with the last ones. Seems like such a deal but...
