Typically, not a huge gap between single generation of CPU (like for like). If price was a consideration, I would absolutely go for higher memory on an M4 v/s lower on an M5!
M5 does have a slightly higher memory bandwidth than M4 but if you're shopping for a base M chip, I'm guessing the workload doesn't really demand that level of consideration...

Market manipulation as people rush in high with the hysteria of news. Btc is a great example, people obviously were propping it up at 100k still buying or else it wouldn't have bubbled like that, but everything is cyclic and people can't wait for the cycle thinking it's the last one like history no longer repeats itself.

So this is a really good deal? I've been wanting a new MacBook pro to upgrade from my m1 air. Mostly development work with react and lots of open SaaS tabs on my Firefox.
It's in stock near me and I'm very tempted.

Looks to be a good deal if you wanted a Pro Chip. The M4 Pro chip will for sure outperform a M5 base chip in most aspects. Also looks like 7 months ago this laptop on Apples website was priced over $2.2k+....
