That NVME price is doing a lot of heavy lifting on the deal price.

Ryzen 5 5500 is not even as good as a Ryzen 5 3600.

Ryzen 5 5500, from 2022, has only 16mb of L3 cache (affects lower average fps and causes mode frequent micro stutters at high fps.) and is locked to PCIE 3.0.
Ryzen 5 3600, from 2019, has 32mb of L3 cache and has PCIE 4.0 (which is double the bandwidth of PCIE 3.0).

This might make for a pretty good NAS starter kit, except buying the RAM will just about double your cost before you even get to the PSU, Case, and HDDs.

This is actually a pretty solid deal in 2026. I'm a builder and will spread these parts across a couple of PCs.

In 2026, total price for this kit is equal to the normal price of the storage and mobo alone.

This is absolutely correct. However, from all the benchmarks I've seen the 5500 and the 3600 tend to perform very similarly. Apparently even with the cut back nature of the 5500, the newer architecture gives it a boost that evens out the performance. But given the options, I would still pick the 3600.

Yeah, but a GPU is going to be doing all the heavy lifting anyways if you're gaming on it, and you're really not expecting to be getting a top end GPU at that. This is a 1080p build that just about any modern GPU can handle

If it came with 16GB of RAM, it would be the pre-discounted price.
