Theragun Prime is a powerful massage gun aimed at deep tissue work, with 16 millimeter amplitude, strong press down resistance, and a more powerful feel than cheaper knockoffs. The handle is described as rubberized and softer, and the grip quality stands out. Battery life is also called better than budget alternatives, though the device is really loud. The main hesitation is value, since similar features and stronger competitors like the Bob and Brad D6 Pro Plus are cited at similar or lower prices, and this price is seen as close to its usual range.
Athletes and deep-tissue massage users who want stronger percussive pressure, because it has more force before stalling and reaches deeper tissue than cheaper knockoffs.
Brand-agnostic buyers who want the strongest spec sheet for the money, because competing models can deliver higher stall force and more accessories at a similar price.
It has stronger percussion, better battery life, and more head travel before stalling, which makes it better for deeper tissue work. Cheap knockoffs can be fine for light massages, but they are often underpowered and may fail within months.
The D6 Pro Plus is described as having 16mm amplitude, up to 85 lb stall force, 7 attachments, a heated head, adjustable head angle, and a hard case. The Theragun Prime 5th Gen is cited at 30 lb stall force and no case, so the D6 Pro Plus is presented as the stronger value on paper.
The 5th Gen is described as more powerful and having a rubberized, softer handle. It is also noted for better grip quality compared with earlier versions.
It is described as close to the usual Amazon price range of about $200 to $210 rather than a deep sale. A Gen 6 Prime was also listed at $200, which makes the $160 price look lower than recent reference pricing but not dramatically discounted.
After doing some research the Brad and Bob (one of the most popular competitors) D6 Pro Plus seems to be the better buy. That's on sale for $190 as well. But it has up to 85lb stall force (vs 35lb on the theragun 6th gen and 30lb on 5th gen). Same 16mm amplitude. 7 attachments with a heated head. It has the capability to change the head angle (which is only available on the more expensive Theragun models). And it has a hard carrying case. No case on the 6th gen prime.
The D6 Pro seems to compete with the much more expensive theragun pro plus which is $550.
At least on paper it seems like a no-brainer to go for the D6 Pro Plus. Reviews and videos are very good. And its products have been on the market for a few years now, so reliability seems to be decent. The specifications are geared more towards pro level use, but for just $30 more than the 5th gen prime, why not? With pretax HSA funds the practical cost difference becomes even lower.
Therabody seems to be coasting on brand recognition. But there are other competitors now which are much better at same price points.

Amazon. I wouldn't call it a sale since the price usually fluctuates around the same price of $200 to $210. I bought the D6 Pro during the same time when the Theragun deal was posted. After seeing various YouTube comparisons and taking stock of the feature set comparison, it didn't make any sense to buy the Theragun. I've been happy with it so far.

The Theragun Prime can deliver noticeably more force than cheaper knock-offs before it stops.
The Prime can feel quieter while still providing stronger performance than generic versions.
The Prime's battery performance can hold up better than sub-$50 knock-offs that die within months.
The Prime can offer a rubberized or softer handle that feels like an upgrade.
The device can be very loud even though it is strong.
The Prime deal may not feel like a true discount if pricing typically hovers around $200 to $210.
Some competitor models can match key specs like 16mm amplitude while offering features such as a heated head and a hard carrying case.
Not all Bob and Brad models support the same amplitude as the Theragun, so compatibility depends on the exact model.
