The ribbing on this makes it appear this is similar to the old school green hose but they made it black to look like their awesome rubber hoses that were truly no kink. Slick dealers from 10 to 15 years ago know what I'm talking about and probably still own those beasts.
The other thing... a year or 2 ago I bought the "new" briggs and stratton (i imagine the same as the old craftsman) rubber hose and it is definitely better than your average big box hose but it is thinner than the old Sears ones that were kink free monsters.
Is there any modern rubber hose that competes with the old Sears rubber hoses ala 10 years ago?

I know what you mean: I have one of the Craftman rubber hose and still going strong for over 15 years under the Southern California sun. Bought a "contractor" hose from Costco a few years ago and it's already falling apart. Sure it was cheaper but now it's good for the landfill.

Those old Craftsman hoses were an amazing deal. I still have mine and the have lived outside for decades. They were made by Parker Hannifin who still makes a ton of commercial hose products at exceptionally high prices.

my old 15 year craftsman one had a leak by the adapter, i went for a warranty and they tried to give me one of the newer cheap ones, i just said no thank you and kept my old one and cut it by about 3 inches and put a new adapter ($10) on it, works like new. they dont make the new ones like they used to. I also have about a 10 year old Good Year harbor freight hose thats holding up pretty good as well, but the Sears craftsman one from 15 years ago still looks better.
im also curious what new hoses compare to these legendary Sears rubber hoses of 15 years ago.

I was wondering about the Continental rubber hose. I was going to try one but I've probably got 10 of the old Craftsman hoses around that are still good.
Bought my Craftsman around 2017 when Sears was closing down. Paid about $20. Still very new and working great in the SoCal weather after almost a decade.

I left the hose outside 24/7 for years in PA weather, all the rain, sun, and snow. I don't see any damage or leaks at all. What I did was remember to close the water faucet during the wintertime. The faucet was busted one time, but no damage to the hose.

You may have had one of the ones made Goodyear rubber. Those last forever but they aren't manufactured by Goodyear anymore.

possibly might have gotten lucky and got the good year made one, the good year branded one also looks and works great, its just the black is a little faded on it, but to be fair i have the good year hose exposed to the California sunlight all year round for the past 10+ years where my craftsman one is in a hose storage box... but either way, both are doing good so far, keep my fingers crossed it stays that way.

Even the goodyear branded hoses aren't made by Goodyear they just license out rhe name now. Goodyear tire and rubber got out of the hose business years ago. Went to Swan and others for awhile.

I'm sticking with Ely polyurethane hoses. Those are truly professional grade.
