This lens has been largely superceded by the newer (but *much* more expensive) Sony 28mm-70mm F/2.0 GM.

Both are excellent lenses, although beyond the obvious enhanced low light performance benefits on the new lens, I believe that the newer 28-70 is also sharper/better AF performance.

The 28-70 is a whole different lens so I wouldn't say people choose that over this one. You lose 4mm on the wide end which is a deal breaker for most. It makes the decision between the two a little more tricky but as a photographer I would say this 24-70 GM II is a better choose for most people.
