Pokémon Legends Z.A on Switch 2 stands out as a physical release that includes the base game on cartridge, with the Switch 2 upgrade bundled in the box and playable on both Switch 1 and Switch 2. The real time combat with move cooldowns sets it apart from the usual turn based Pokémon formula, and the game has drawn strong praise for being hard to put down, even across dozens of hours. The DLC is also described as pretty good, though its price makes the full package feel expensive. At $45, it is framed as the best current deal, with past Costco pricing lower.

  • Players who want a Pokémon game with real-time combat, because battles use button presses, cooldowns, and free movement instead of turn-based fights.

  • Collectors who want a physical cartridge, because the base game is on the cart rather than only a game key card.

  • Switch 1 owners who want a cartridge that still works on their current console, because the Switch 1 game is included and the upgrade can be added later.

  • Players looking for a long single-player RPG, because one base-game playthrough ran past 85 hours without DLC or online play.

  • Players who prefer turn-based Pokémon battles, because this entry uses real-time combat with cooldowns instead.

  • Completionists who want the full version immediately, because the expansion is pricey and can make the base game feel incomplete.

  • Fans who bounced off the last couple of Pokémon games, because this one still follows the same series style and may not change their mind.

Did they change this? I have a Switch 2 physical copy around launch and there was no upgrade code inside
They are either lying or don't know what they are talking about and just spreading misinformation they heard before the switch 2 released

Worth it for this price? I couldn't get into the last couple
It's a different style from the others. Slightly closer to Legends Arceus but different from that too. It's real-time fights where you press buttons with a cooldown and run around, rather than turn-based. I enjoy it but haven't finished it (but I plan to go back sometime)

I enjoy it (though I have yet to finish it). A lot of people still say it's not as good as others (especially the very beloved Legends Arceus), but I also remember seeing Reddit posts of people saying "I was skeptical of Z-A but it's actually really fun" at the time it came out. Whether you like it will also depend on the style of game you like — this game is real-time with cooldown for moves, instead of turn-based like usual.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy this game. I'm halfway through the DLC and still loving it. I got this and Metroid Prime during the GameStop sale about a month and a half ago, and I haven't been able to put this one down. Metroid is still unopened but highly recommend Z-A.

The switch one version is on the cart. The upgrade to switch 2 is via code in the box.
Why people insist on chiming in when they don't know what they are talking about is beyond me. Down vote this to oblivion.

Both the Switch 1 and Switch 2 version are on the Switch 2 cart. The Switch 2 cart plays on both systems.

As for the game, I was never a Pokémon fan. Never played one for more than a couple hours until Arceus which I did beat but haven't touched it since. Z-A Is great. I have over 85 hours into it and had to force myself to put it down. This is just playing the base game, no DLC or online play.
