Pokémon Legends Z.A on Switch 2 stands out as a physical release that includes the base game on cartridge, with the Switch 2 upgrade bundled in the box and playable on both Switch 1 and Switch 2. The real time combat with move cooldowns sets it apart from the usual turn based Pokémon formula, and the game has drawn strong praise for being hard to put down, even across dozens of hours. The DLC is also described as pretty good, though its price makes the full package feel expensive. At $45, it is framed as the best current deal, with past Costco pricing lower.
Common Questions (4)
It uses real-time combat with move cooldowns instead of the usual turn-based style, so it feels different from mainline Pokémon. That change makes it click for some players who bounced off earlier games, while others may still prefer Legends Arceus or the traditional format.
There is a DLC expansion for the game, and the upgrade/expansion content is available separately. If the expansion price makes the base game feel too expensive, waiting for a complete or package deal is a reasonable strategy, though no such bundle is confirmed here.
It comes on a physical cartridge, not just a game key card. The Switch 2 Edition physical release includes the Switch 1 game on cart plus the upgrade pack on the cart as well, and it can be used on both Switch 1 and Switch 2.
Yes. The Switch 2 Edition cart works on both Switch 1 and Switch 2, and Switch 1 owners can later upgrade automatically when they move to Switch 2.

Both the Switch 1 and Switch 2 version are on the Switch 2 cart. The Switch 2 cart plays on both systems.
As for the game, I was never a Pokémon fan. Never played one for more than a couple hours until Arceus which I did beat but haven't touched it since. Z-A Is great. I have over 85 hours into it and had to force myself to put it down. This is just playing the base game, no DLC or online play.
