The Theragun Prime 6th Gen is a large, powerful massage gun that stands out for deep percussive feel and a long lasting battery. The 16 millimeter amplitude is described as especially helpful on a bad neck, and the Prime is said to feel like a clear step up from smaller units. The 6th Gen adds higher stall force than the previous model, but it also ships with only two attachments and no case. It is HSA eligible, and a Chase Offer can trim the price further. A solid option if you want Theragun size and power over extras.

Common Questions (5)

  • The Prime is the larger, heavier model with more attachments, while the Mini is the cheaper option and may be enough for many people. The Prime can feel like a bigger step up in use, especially if you want the full-size Theragun format.

  • The 6th Gen is reported to add 5 lb of stall force, going from 30 lb to 35 lb. It also comes with only 2 attachments instead of 4 and no carrying case, so the main tradeoff is a bit more force for less included accessories.

  • The Theragun Prime is HSA eligible, and a Chase Offers promotion can add 12% cash back up to $50 on Therabody purchases. That can lower the effective price if your card is enrolled.

  • The D6 Pro Plus is described as having much higher stall force, the same 16 mm amplitude, 7 attachments including a heated head, adjustable head angle, and a hard case. The Prime 6th Gen has fewer included accessories and no case, so the D6 Pro Plus looks stronger on paper for features per dollar.

  • No carrying case is included with the 6th Gen Prime. The previous generation had a soft case, so this model ships with fewer accessories overall.

Hot take: Get the much cheaper Theragun Mini instead. Few people need this big heavy version with all the attachments. The Mini is the bomb.

Have both and it's a night and day difference with the prime.

Is Gen 6 worth the $40 difference from the Gen 5?

I'm wondering about that too. Supposedly the 6th gen has 5lb extra stall force (35lb vs 30lb on gen 5). But it comes with only 2 attachments (vs 4 on gen 5). They claim gen 6 grip is better but that might just be marketing. Also Theragun doesn't come with any case now, while previous gen had a soft case. I'm not too concerned with the reduced attachments. No one is going to swap those anyway.

After looking into it briefly I'm genuinely curious as to whether Brad and Bob (one of the most popular competitors) D6 Pro Plus is the better buy. That's on sale for $190 as well. But it has up to 85lb stall force (vs 35lb on the theragun 6th gen). Same 16mm amplitude. 7 attachments with a heated head. It has the capability to change the head angle (which is only available on the more expensive Theragun models). And it has a hard carrying case. No case on the 6th gen prime.

The D6 Pro seems to compete with the much more expensive theragun pro plus which is $550.

At least on paper it seems like a no-brainer to go for the D6 Pro Plus. I know theragun is the most popular brand but by now there are other reliable competitors. Anyone have any suggestions?

I hear absolutely horrible things about them honoring their warranty and customer service in general.
