Samsung's 65 inch S90F is drawing attention as a glossy QD OLED with strong picture quality and a price that lands well below comparable LG C5 options. The glossy screen is a big draw for people who want more pop and richness, and the TV is praised for looking excellent in normal viewing. Reflection handling matters, though, especially in bright rooms, and Dolby Vision support is missing. Warranty and Samsung Care Plus activation also come up as concerns, so it feels best suited to buyers who value the panel and can live with the tradeoffs.
Movie watchers who prefer Dolby Vision-free setups, because the TV's HDR10 presentation is described as effectively indistinguishable in practice.
For this TV, the lack of Dolby Vision is not a dealbreaker for many buyers because Samsung uses HDR10/HDR10+ instead, and several comments say the practical difference is hard to notice in normal viewing. If Dolby Vision is a must-have for you, though, this model will not satisfy that preference.
The 65-inch model is reported to use a glossy QD-OLED panel, and it may be the last glossy screen QD-OLED Samsung makes. That matters if you want the extra picture pop of glossy OLED, but it also means reflections are more noticeable than on matte screens.
Yes. One shopper saw $972 with an edu account, while another got the deal to work at $774 plus tax for $828 after retrying in Firefox on a phone and watching the video. EPP pricing also varies, with first responder-style discounts reported as smaller than ticketsatwork.
Samsung Care+ can fail to register on this TV, with an "update unsuccessful" error appearing when submitting the serial number. In that case, support may not be able to fix it, so using a credit card with purchase protection is a practical backup.
I've yet to rip a UHD DV disk with FEL (Profile 7) . It's always Profile5 so might as well be HDR10 (not even HDR10+ which is on par with DV with per scene lm rating)
What about all these streaming services that use DV natively and the 4K blu rays?
I can put a 1Mbps garbage video stream in an h265 container ... that doesn't mean it looks good.
See my later comment, I've yet to rip a UHD disk that actually has the FEL
You could not pay me to own one of these displays. Dig deeper on actual reviews. I've had to replace numerous S90 for clients. Random black screen requiring a full reboot. Failures. Warranty not being honored. I refuse to supply them.

What I am saying is, I see too many platforms where they use DV as their HDR format. Then when I look at the back of 90% of my 4k BDs it says DV not HDR.
Are you saying even with the DV BD disks, when you rip it, it's not DV that comes out, its HDR? Very weird. It might be because DV needs royalties while HDR is open? I know when I pop in my BD discs, it plays in DV not HDR. UNless I manually make it only output HDR

I have an s90d 65". Was thrilled to get it for $1,100 (open box, like new) from Best Buy. I am thrilled with it (don't have it in a bright sunny room).
Will just leave this here: HDR10 vs HDR10+ vs Dolby Vision: What's The Difference? - RTINGS.com
HDR 10 will win the standard or Dolbys license price has to drop. Thats how it will go
both can be enabled with a firmware update if the tv is compatible which it is if you have one

Samsung warranty is terrible. Credit card helps protect

None use a HDR format natively. The shows format the show/movie in 1 or the other or both. You cannot tell a difference honestly. I was you once. C5 and S90F are on par with each other and if you can get a S90F for $826 you don't wait. IMO

Yes it's marketing and in reality they give you basically the bare minimum equivalent of HDR10. Profile 5 with no FEL is literally just Hdr as the base layer with Minimum Enhancement Layer (MEL). There's no reason to avoid a TV just because of Dolby Vision. Now with DV2 coming out that could change
