Sorry if this a duplicate. When posting browser went wonkie and I don't see my post. Thanks for this post. Was able to sign into Samsung with my school email. Picked up the A11 with cellular. Wanted one since day one but $250 just seemed too much for the amount of ram and specs. The educational discount made it impossible to say no to. With Cal tax came to $169ish, free shipping. Very cool, FU Prime Days! When in the market for anything Samsng I will head to the Sammy store and look for edu discounts first.
U guys paying 35% sale tax????

This or Moto Pad 2026 for $70?
Well for $70, the Motopad. I like Motos because they don't have bloat. Down side is only 2 years of software support. Historically Motos usually get a Lineage build that greatly extends their life.
Now are you talking about a deal from a cell carrier? Then no. Don't get locked into a monthly. Same Samsung EDU has the Cellular A11 for $150ish. No monthly plan requirement and other line required.
Funny how I said don't get locked in to monthly. Just got a 10 year anniversary email from TMobile for my $10/month unlimited business tablet plan. Man I love that plan, have 3 of them active. One sim will be going into me A11 5g when it arrives.

For what it's worth, this discount also works for Military through the same ID.ME verification. I'm a veteran and it's the same discount on Samsung.com

Enroll 1 class at community college & they gives you an edu email. Then with your edu email, you can apply for samsung acct.
If you've graduated from college, check to see if your school has an alumni association email service. That will give you a [email protected] address you can set to forward to your main address. Dunno if that still works, but it did for me a couple years ago.

I've noticed a lot more sites have added more scripting to the logins, and I need to (temporarily) disable my ad blockers to be able to login to them. It sucks, but they seem to work fine if I re-enable the ad blockers after logging in.

Is the 256 GB version worth it for the memory upgrade alone (6gb vs 8gb RAM)? I don't really need the additional storage but just thinking about longevity and usability for light home use.
That really depends on how you plan to use it. 6 GB is fine if you sit there using just a few apps at a time for hours. 8 GB is better if you like to flip between a dozen or two apps during that time. The 6 GB can do it, but eventually it'll run out of memory and will auto-close the oldest app. And it'll take longer when you switch to that app.

The bigger issue I think is 128 GB of storage. We're approaching the point where just the OS and the apps most people install will eat up over half of that. Add in some pictures, videos, music, and you will hit 128 GB pretty quickly. Granted you are less likely to add those to a tablet. But if any of your apps use a large cache (my mom's messaging app keeps all the pics and videos her friends send her in cache), you'll be better off with the 256 GB. The industry really should've switched to 256 GB as the default minimum within the last couple years. But they've been dragging their feet because of the sky high memory prices.

Sigh. California has this wonderful thing where you have to pay sales tax on the normal retail price of what you buy. If something is normally $1000, and you find a fantastic deal on it for $300, you still have to pay tax on $1000. Yes it sucks. Yes it contradicts everything about economics (the value of the taxable transaction is the amount of money exchanged, not some made-up value at which no transaction would occur). Don't let what happened to Californians happen to you. Stay vigilant so you can catch wind if your legislators propose anything like it, and fight them tooth and nail over it.

Tax is 8.75% The $4 e waste I don't mind, makes it easy to get rid of it. I have a several places in town that take it free because they file a claim with the state and get paid for it. Beats it ending up in a ditch or an alley.

Did not know that. That's insidious but so California to do that.

Did not know that. That's insidious but so California to do that.
It turns you you didn't know that because it's not generally true* (as noted by the gedster314, the one that was buying the thing in Cali, the price difference was because they're buying the cellular model instead of the wifi only model.)

*Some limited things can trigger this, but they all basically amount to "And then the retailer was actually paid the full sales price by a third party". That means they have to pay sales tax on it... and while they don't have to pass that on to you (they could absorb it as a cost and pay it themselves), they can and usually will. An example of this would be a retailer selling a $300 product where the manufacturer comes to them and says hey, if you sell it for $200, we'll pay you $100 to cover your loss. The retailer gets the full sales price, so they have to remit whatever the sales tax is on $300 to the government... so on a discount like that, they pass that full sales tax on to the end buyer. Manufacturer Coupons typically fall into this category. And while I've not looked up the entire law for every state, I know the coupon thing applies in Georgia as well so it's not like it's a Cali special.
If the retailer's just doing a discount on their own and not getting reimbursed, IE normal retail value $300 and they're selling it for $200 and all they're going to ever get paid is $200, then all you pay sales tax on is $200. Since Samsung is both the manufacturer and the retailer in this case, they ain't getting reimbursed by Samsung, so there's no weird sales tax things to worry about.

If you don't mind used check your local marketplace. I found a barely used tab s8+ for $100. There were a lot of the older premium OLED models for cheap on FB marketplace. Idk why people overpay for new tablets with a slower processor and a worse screen??
Probably because they don't want days of messaging random people to hope to luck into some sketchy meeting on FB marketplace that costs $20 in gas to get to only to buy a tablet in unknown condition, no warranty, and that might be stolen?
But if you are cool with that risk:reward relationship....just keep living your best life. We won't judge you like you are judging us Wink
