Is there any reason "recreational" wouldn't be good for a kitchen?

should be ok

5-B:C fire extinguisher is a compact, single-use safety device certified for flammable liquid and gas fires (Class B) and energized electrical equipment fires (Class C). It is specifically designed to suppress up to 5 square feet of liquid/grease fire, making it ideal for vehicle trunks, kitchens, and workshops

Actually I did a little more homework on this and the REC5 is a BC rated fire extinguisher which means it is filled with sodium bicarbonate and is designed for flammable liquids and electrical fires, but without the Class A rating it doesn't put out ordinary household combustibles like fabric, wood, paper/cardboard and trash. For household use you want an A, B, and C rated extinguisher that uses monoammonium phosphate.
