We have this and it is quite good, although the app and the web page could use some improvement they are very simple and easy to use.

There's a chance that you can even get a rebate from your local power company that will pay for the majority of it.

I have a few of these last BF when it was on sale at Lowes for $36. Apparently, a bunch of people locally did the same and try to sell it on Marketplace. I bought them bc I needed all of them; very easy to install and setup. One downside; you have to set brightness to zero if you install it in your bedroom or else it will be shining brightly in the dark.

Check your local utility promo a lot of time they offer discounts on these thermostat last time I was able to snag 50$ coupon on this specific model. It does depend if your utility offers this or not mine is (Texas Centerpoint)

So what would be the benefits of something like this over Google Nest Thermostat?

Nothing. I tried one of these, it is very cheap feeling and not very responsive, has no reporting on usage stats other than a bad monthly report. I returned it and went with an ecobee.
The only good thing about it is the color background so you can blend it with you wall, but other than that you only get one of these because it's cheap for a Wi-Fi thermostat, but really this is a $50 thermostat. The screen is cheap, like pressing on plastic wrap. You also can't set the temperature variance, how much it can increase/decrease before coming on.

I agree with this comment on the app. I felt it lacked a lot and it being able to have multiple cooling or heating schedules was annoying. I switched to Sensi.

I have this for my house. Decent enough and clear/easy to read plus adjust as needed.

I did have to wire up the power line from the air handler. But just glad I don't have to mess with batteries anymore.

I ran one of these for a year, before the electronics inside went haywire (screen glitching on and off, unreliable and unpredictable furnace cycling). Switched back to my Nest without issue.
Honeywell residential thermostats aren't made by Honeywell anymore, either. They are made by "Resideo" and have lower QC now.

Also concur that it works well, and the app is terrible.
