it varies depending on dates and availability. that's why i strategically included award redemption out of a few origins. generally, cheaper airfares are out of LAX, SEA, SFO, JFK, IAD, DFW, etc.. so in my example, los angeles to europe is 40k but then so is kansas city (rare), if that makes sense.

How would I check availability from Minneapolis? Is there a way to filter for just the heavily discounted fares?

click on the link in the OP and select your "origin" for MSP. the list of award fares will populate out of MSP.

These are awful. I went to Tokyo for 50,000 miles and $50. Now it's doubled. Paid $900 for South Africa, now it's $1900. Delta is now for the tech and financebros

Delta switched to dynamic pricing and dynamic FFM awards in 2016, so there isn't any "chart" for typical FFM required. I've seen a calendar that shows vastly different FFM costs between two locations depending on travel dates. I've seen flucuations based on these differences of 47K to just 15K FFM, so being flexible is very important.
One SkyMile is worth around 1.18 cents each. 10,000 == $118 so 40,000 == $472;
Don't forget that entering Europe has a hefty tax if you stay over 24 hours. It changes based on the airline fees, govt and specific airport. I remember being shocked. OTOH, I've used FFM to fly to South America multiple times and the fees were less than $40, round trip, each time. Talk about a bargain. I didn't visit Brazil, which has a reciprocal VISA cost program again.

Miles are such a scam. Just get cash back and call it a day. Unless you are a truly frequent flier, you just waste miles on flights. Never have enough to make a difference. I rarely seen miles beat 2% cash back unless you fly really odd times or destinations or use it for upgrades where you still pay extra cash even with miles.

The most value in them is with business/first class bookings where tickets can easily be $5,000 or more and 70k or so miles. But honestly everyone has been axing things so hard and limiting redemptions that those are beginning to be far and few between with all programs.
