The HD 600 is a classic open back headphone known for neutral, revealing sound and a spacious, speaker like presentation that works well for music, mixing, and gaming. The tuning is not bass heavy, so vocals and midrange stand out, and the imaging can make instruments and enemy positions easy to place. It also has a long reputation for lasting well, with replaceable parts and strong support for amp pairings, especially tube amps. The main caveat is power, since it benefits from a capable amplifier, and the open design will not block room noise.
Listeners who want a neutral, mid-forward headphone for critical listening because it stays revealing and sounds right with a capable amplifier.
Gamers who need precise positional cues because the open-back design creates a spacious soundstage that makes left-right-behind placement easy to hear.
They can play from a phone, interface, or other device, but they really wake up with a capable amp. The 300-ohm impedance means more power helps, and tube amps or balanced amp setups are specifically recommended for best sound.
The HD 600 is tuned very neutrally rather than as a bass-heavy or V-shaped headphone. It can sound mid-forward and has less bass and soundstage than some higher-end models, which is why it is often favored for critical listening and mixing.
The open-back design creates a wider, more room-like soundstage that makes instrument placement easier to pinpoint in 3D space. That same spatial presentation is useful in games for locating sounds like enemies to the left, right, or behind you.
Yes. The HD 600 uses resin-polymer construction, and every part can reportedly be replaced without tools because Sennheiser sells replacement parts. That makes it easier to keep them going long term.
The HD 600 is generally described as the more neutral option, while the HD 650 and HD 6XX are the alternatives some people compare against. In direct A/B listening, the HD 600 was preferred for its more neutral tuning.
Ahhhh shit, after years of complaining that prime day and steam sales ain't what they used to be, these prices come along and I actually have the money for it. So long -d-e-n-t-a-l-p-l-a-n- I mean, so long, saving up for a rainy day. Car! Don't break down. Cat! Don't get sick.

take a picture of your cat wearing the headphones and enjoying cat music.
These were my favorite headphones ten years ago. That was until I got the HD 700's and then in 2021 the HD 800S which is vastly superior in every way to both. But the HD 600's are really good headphones for certain uses. Their only real weakness is lack of bass and soundstage.
I got my Arya stealth for a little more than these Sennheiser HD 600 headphones... they aren't in the same universe. Arya stealth are God tier for the price. These aren't planar. I do worry about the longevity of the arya stealth though. I hear some people have had the phones just die suddenly. Probably because of the paper thin planar magnets. So having a backup is a nice idea for that.
Dang, you got a great deal. I think I got them for around 450. Luckily ai was able to convince me to skip this deal. I'm pretty sure the only open backs I actually want are the hd800s but can't justify those atm. I'm trying to sell the hd820 I got at auction for 500. Incredible separation but hard to get a consistent seal and weak bass even with eq

These 600s are, what, 9.3% of the cost of HD 800s?
I don't even know why they entered the conversation.
The sales tax alone on the 800s would cost me more than the 600s. 🤣

That's an insane deal, I've never seen them much below $400, even refurb.

Very curious: how much is "a little more" than these Sennheiser HD 600?

The 600-ohm impedance can sound better when paired with a capable amplifier, including tube amps.
The open-back design creates a more spacious soundstage for pinpointing instruments in 3D space.
The HD 600 delivers a neutral, non-bass-heavy tuning that can sound mid-forward and highly revealing.
Sennheiser sells replaceable parts for the HD 600, which supports tool-free maintenance over time.
The HD 600 can require a lot more power because of its high 300/600-ohm class impedance.
The HD 600 may not deliver a big perceived upgrade when used without a dedicated amp.
Customer support price-matching can be difficult because chat access and call-backs may fail.
The HD 600's sound can be limited by weak bass and a narrower soundstage compared with some higher-end models.
