Garmin Forerunner 165 stands out as a lightweight running watch with accurate heart rate and GPS, strong battery life, and Garmin Connect's clear data presentation. It also feels comfortable, works well for training programs and weightlifting, and the non sapphire screen is described as surprisingly tough. The main gaps are no maps and less depth than higher end Garmin models, so it is better for everyday training than mountain navigation. At $129, it lands as a strong value for a Garmin with solid basics.

Nice find. I bought it from WallyWorld. A comfortable watch. Main use will be GPS. No interest in sleep, etc.

I have the Watch Fit 3 and was just asking ChatGPT to do a comparison. I think this low end Garmin would be better for cycling (which is all I really need). Besides, using the Huawei in the US is a royal PITA.
It would also be better for training programs and weightlifting. For cycling I would get a power meter and a cycling computer TBH, but I'm not at that point yet.

Is this watch good for hiking in Eastern Nevada sierras
This watch is great for what it is, but doesn't include maps or extra long battery life like the Fenix series so I would say using it for navigation in the mountains is not wise. Go with something with maps so you have a backup mapping system, then also have maps downloaded to your phone, and lastly have a compass and map of the area and know how to use them.

Well I am just mostly concerned about the gps accuracy when navigating it in the wilderness. I do trails that are fairly easy to follow like Mt. Whitney, Langley, etc, half dome clouds rest. I just need to be sure that the activity isnt bonking and I always use alltrails as a backup for map navigation.
