The RTX 5070 12GB is framed as a strong 1440p gaming card, especially with DLSS, and the 12GB buffer is described as enough for current play in most settings. DLSS is seen as more mature than FSR, and the card is also noted for having some headroom for heavier games and future use. The main concern is VRAM longevity, since 12GB may feel tight in newer AAA titles or for AI and LLM work, where 16GB is preferred. Pricing also draws comparison to cheaper Radeon options that are said to offer more VRAM and better value.

Common Questions (5)

  • The 9070 XT and especially the 9070 non-XT are repeatedly described as faster and better value, with claims of roughly 20-30% more performance and more VRAM. The RTX 5070 is still the better pick if you want Nvidia features like DLSS or prefer Nvidia for your setup.

  • Yes for most 1440p gaming with DLSS on, and typical usage can stay around 10GB or less. Newer AAA games can exceed 10GB on eye-candy settings, so 12GB is safer than 8GB but not as roomy as 16GB.

  • It should be fine for now, but the 4GB gap versus 16GB cards may matter more over the next 2-5 years as game VRAM demands keep rising. The card's GPU performance still matters more than VRAM alone, so newer GPUs can outperform older ones even with less memory.

  • At $549.99, it is described as closer to a 9060 XT or 9070 non-XT price point, while the 9070 XT is often about $100 more. That makes the deal feel reasonable if you specifically want an RTX 5070, but not the strongest raw-performance value versus AMD alternatives.

  • It can work for gaming, but 12GB is limiting for AI and LLM use. 16GB is described as the practical minimum because many models are quantized to fit that memory size.

Great deal on a 5070, 12GB VRAM is no issues if you game at 1440p with DLSS on.

The 4 GB make a big difference performance wise?
I own a 5070 and all the games I play at 1440p with DLSS on uses max of 10 GB VRAM.

Well that depends on games and settings. Lots of AAA newer games easy go past 10gb of VRAM usage if your settings are on eye candy. Though I agree the 5070 12gb still enough for todays 1440p however if I had the choice between 5070 or 9070XT I would go with the 9070XT all day long and that is coming from a 5070 Ti user.

More ram generally doesn't add performance; it lets you store larger/more detailed textures. If you try to push a game beyond the RAM limits of your card then yes, performance will suffer. But if you can fit all your textures for a particular game at a particular detail setting inside 8GB, then a 12 or 16GB card isn't going to perform better than an 8GB card all other things being equal (bandwidth, memory clock, gpu clock, etc).

Seriously, these "sale" promotions are feeling a bit deceptive

That is wild, paying almost double for 25% more performance. Not a good time to be into pc gaming. 🤷
It is wild, a bad time to be a gamer, and ridiculous all at once. The main logical reasons are that there is a decent performance boost, the ti has 16 gb of vram (the nand flag supply has everyone spooked), and people are still willing to pay ridiculous amounts for those two things.

People think high vram future proofs their GPU. A 2019 16gb of HMB Radeon VII gets spanked by a 2020 10gb 3080. The GPU is the main predictor of performance, outside of AI work. This comparison generally holds true across generations with newer generations outperforming older regardless of VRAM capacity.

Recommend the 9060ti with 16 gb. Got it about the same price when they were running the 007 included promo

The idea is if you have the same model and lower vram, irs worse, which is obvious. People aren't stupid. You don't see people buying very old cards with high vram

Not really now (unless you're running ultra at 4k on today's AAA games with RT, which you're probably not doing with this card anyway) but 2-5 years into the future on 1080p, who knows. There were people just a few years ago that would have guessed the 6gb of VRAM would be safe at 1080p for a lot longer. Now 8gb of VRAM is starting to look like it may not last much longer as the cut off even at 1080p.
The way things are, I think game developers will work their way around further need for VRAM mostly because it just won't be available. So cards may actually stay relevant longer than they otherwise would have.

Plus having extra headroom for context
I have a watched some LLM usage on AMD Gpus but notImpressed. Still on Nvidia myself. Still worried about support and waiting for ports but I don't have AMD GPU to try what I normally do on it yet.

For game, most people say no

for AI, huge difference if you ever want to use the same GPU for AI experiments and most people should if they have a decent size GPU.

16GB is really necessary as most LLM provider quants it down to fit on 16GB, not 12GB.
Saw the specs for new Adobe AI apps that say they require 16 GB.
