The RTX 5070 12GB is framed as a strong 1440p gaming card, especially with DLSS, and the 12GB buffer is described as enough for current play in most settings. DLSS is seen as more mature than FSR, and the card is also noted for having some headroom for heavier games and future use. The main concern is VRAM longevity, since 12GB may feel tight in newer AAA titles or for AI and LLM work, where 16GB is preferred. Pricing also draws comparison to cheaper Radeon options that are said to offer more VRAM and better value.
1440p gamers using DLSS, because 12GB VRAM has enough headroom for current titles at that setting.
The 9070 XT and especially the 9070 non-XT are repeatedly described as faster and better value, with claims of roughly 20-30% more performance and more VRAM. The RTX 5070 is still the better pick if you want Nvidia features like DLSS or prefer Nvidia for your setup.
Yes for most 1440p gaming with DLSS on, and typical usage can stay around 10GB or less. Newer AAA games can exceed 10GB on eye-candy settings, so 12GB is safer than 8GB but not as roomy as 16GB.
It should be fine for now, but the 4GB gap versus 16GB cards may matter more over the next 2-5 years as game VRAM demands keep rising. The card's GPU performance still matters more than VRAM alone, so newer GPUs can outperform older ones even with less memory.
At $549.99, it is described as closer to a 9060 XT or 9070 non-XT price point, while the 9070 XT is often about $100 more. That makes the deal feel reasonable if you specifically want an RTX 5070, but not the strongest raw-performance value versus AMD alternatives.
It can work for gaming, but 12GB is limiting for AI and LLM use. 16GB is described as the practical minimum because many models are quantized to fit that memory size.
People think high vram future proofs their GPU. A 2019 16gb of HMB Radeon VII gets spanked by a 2020 10gb 3080. The GPU is the main predictor of performance, outside of AI work. This comparison generally holds true across generations with newer generations outperforming older regardless of VRAM capacity.
Compare it to the 9070 non xt. That 16 gigs smokes this thing. 12gb is already being pushed at 1440 on most games and medium to high settings. The cheaper 9070 non-xt is a full 20-30% better and still less expensive
RAM isnt as much for direct performance, its how much video data can fit there, when you increase resolution and/or detail is when more RAM gets eaten up. So you can get into situations where the GPU could handle more detail but because it all doesnt fit into RAM it starts swapping out and now performance tanks. If you play at lower resolutions or settings or simple games then the RAM doesnt matter.
Thats a long winded way to say RAM only indirectly affects performance, more so with newer games, poorly optimized games, ect. People view 16gb RAM as more "future proof" because newer games not yet out could want it.

The way things are, I think game developers will work their way around further need for VRAM mostly because it just won't be available. So cards may actually stay relevant longer than they otherwise would have.
I hope you're right. It seems logical based on their need to support the most hardware to sell product. However, if gaming turns into mass subscription services, most of us may not be able to afford the hardware needed to run games in the future.
The idea is if you have the same model and lower vram, irs worse, which is obvious. People aren't stupid. You don't see people buying very old cards with high vram
I agree a 16gb 5060ti is a much better choice over an 8gb 5060ti. Can't think of any other cards that come with different ram capacity with the same gpu. A 24gb 3090, will still be outperformed by a 12gb 5070 in almost all games. I stand by my claim that the gpu is more important than vram for gaming.
Get the 9070xt I got two and the drivers being bad is a BS lie. AMD drivers are great now.!
I own already one and I just bought myself another one on AliExpress for the cheap. At the moment, I'm just awaiting its arrival since it's my first time purchasing a GPU from a seller on the platform.

Let me know if it's legit and good, I might want to pick one up. I did see listings for them on there and wondered.

I'll give a status update when it arrives, hopefully. However, I did check the comments/reviews under the product listing to confirm that others have successfully received their delivery before placing my order so my chances of success are quite high.

You will get what you ordered. I received mine earlier this month. Mine came from a UK shop. I would've made a deal post about it, but I didn't want to promote something that was obviously paid for with stolen credit cards. It matches the other reviews, where the seller asks you to sign for the package using another person's name due to a supposed warehouse error.

I noticed that too in the product reviews and I was also considering posting a deal a/b the card, but based on what I had gathered, it seemed as though they were procured through illegitimate means or shady practices. If that's how they make their money then I'm not here to judge since I'm none the wiser 🙄🤷🏾 ♂️.
