there's an opensource app called Shizuku which can do root stuff on phones that are not rooted
it will allow you to see and disable apps that should not be running

verizon bought tracfone family of services
all deals are kinda gone now
no more cheap clamshell bogos with year of service
every deal on QVC shows as "waitlist" and the tracfone official account on ebay is almost always empty
maybe black friday but even Amazon PrimeDay didn't have deals
check back on amazon daily

I have one of these from the last deal. The second SIM is an eSIM, not 2 pSIMs. On the about page it shows 2 IMEIs but the SIM Manager in Settings will confirm that the second is just an eSIM only.
The phone gets noticeably faster after about 3-4 days of use after all updates and the background stuff from the initial setup finishes. Turning off RAM Plus will also make the phone feel faster since it prevents memory used by background apps from getting sent to slow internal storage (at the cost of the OS closing background apps more often). It's still not fast by any means but good enough for daily use like messaging apps and maps.

Today I actually placed the order just because I wanted it to hit Chase's 5% by shipping before the end of this month/quarter and thought most likely the ETA would begin falling back days or a week if I didn't. Some commenter not liking this device had been considering canceling it if it didn't ship by Sunday night. (Somebody else insists this is "blazingly fast" not that I will do anything that exceptional on this device.) Instead I already received an email three and a half hours ago it officially shipped and says Monday delivery (versus Tuesday given at my time of ordering; and passing on a no rush digital credit I likely wouldn't use had I waited until next Friday but presumably missing Chase's 5% back then)

it might get a bump up at some point, the A16 is actively sold by Verizon
actually it seems like the A16 got android 16 this year
I blocked/disabled updates so it may auto-update
I keep it on old versions in case someone comes up with a root
The Android 16-based One UI 8.0 update is now available for the carrier-locked version of the Galaxy A16 5G in the USA.
The update comes with firmware version A166USQU3CYIC and includes the September 2025 security patch.
It is currently available on AT&T, Comcast, Cricket Wireless, DISH, MetroPCS, Spectrum Cellular, T-Mobile, and US Cellular networks in the country.
If you have a Galaxy A16 5G and live in the USA, you can check for the new update by navigating to
Settings > Software update > Download and install.
After the update is downloaded, tap the Install now button. The phone will then restart after a few minutes, once the installation procedure is completed.
