there's an opensource app called Shizuku which can do root stuff on phones that are not rooted
it will allow you to see and disable apps that should not be running

amazon sometimes raises prices on the weekends and then lowers them monday/tuesday
so the good news is they will sit there for awhile, there are 14 in stock
wait for price drop back to $40 maybe Monday maybe Tuesday
this may be "ai" pricing testing if it can sell higher, don't reward it
btw if I am understand this properly from reading a bunch of stuff many places
1. ODIN is needed to flash TWRP without root on Samsung phones
2. but you cannot flash anything on Samsung phones unless the OEM UNLOCK option is available in Developer Options
3. you cannot get the OEM unlock options on A16 unless it is also already carrier unlocked
OEM unlock is not the same as carrier unlocked of course but one is tied to the other
so that means first we need to get tracfone/verizon to carrier unlock these phones
a few people seem to have been successful in arguing with tracfone/verizon that since there is a prepaid YEAR on these phones, they should be eligible for carrier unlock immediately
so whomever gets tracfone to unlock these A16s first can help us out by looking under the hidden Developer Options menu in settings and see if OEM unlock appears in the options after that
otherwise we are stuck, no TWRP/root until carrier unlock, which is not typical but makes some sense
in the meanwhile I highly recommend Shizuku for a fake kinda root using ADB wireless, at least on these phones Shizuku can start without being connected to a host
the oem unlocking in developer options is the bootloader unlock
and I'm going back to my original stance: people will never unlock a tracfone bootloader
there may be a temp root option some day for people on old android and old ONE but even that will never happen if you keep applying updates
Shizuku as a root alternative does work however, can do about 10-20% of what real root can do
(btw if Knox is tripped the oem unlocking might never show up)
but so many people have the A16 that I am hoping for a miracle someday

I purchased the phone 6-24-26, and activated it today. I called TF beforehand (at their activation number). They looked up my IMEI and told me what bundled plan was associated with this phone. That gave enough confidence to do the harvest from my old phone to the A16. It properly activated as 1500 paygo plan. 1.5 GB was added to my balance.
I don't know why the OP's phone came with the unlimited plan. Possibly it was just a mistake. These are still unavailable, but they might come back again.

the year is tied to activation is tied to the phone/sim
however once activated you can transfer tracfone service to any tracfone
straightalk is in the tracfone family I think?
if so then yes but you may need customer service to assist
I once lost my tracfone and they were able to transfer the service to my other tracfone
