This printer is the equivalent of the razor and blade strategy -- give a way the razor and make 'em bend over to pay for the blades. Same thing here. This printer is LOCKED to used ONLY HP brand print cartridges. EXPENSIVE.

In my opinion, if you are going to keep a printer for a while, get a tank-style printer where you refill with a bottle of cheap ink (any brand, even compatible ink). The printer costs a bit more upfront, but if you use a printer enough, you will wind up saving money with a tank-style (which typically comes with 1-3 years of ink IN THE BOX).

Just checked, and here's the RIP OFF: HP wants $73 for a black cartridge that only prints 1000 pages and color cartridges are only 800 pages (and this is with the EXTENDED cartridges that are double the pages of the regular cartridges). Also, this printer comes with "starter" cartridges that are far less than the regular, so expect to be shelling out $200 for a set of ink VERY SOON.

Do not buy an HP printer. Their CEO has made the company mission to make their printers a subscription service.

Hate HP products but for $50 and with Costco's return policy, this is a good deal.

You know it's bad when they have to sell the Wi-Fi in their unit as "their most reliable."

Also to search in app you have to go to Store tab and paste it in there. This one is deleted from the Web site.

Are you suggesting buying the printer, printing a few hundred pages until the ink runs out, then return it and get your $50 back?

This is super terrible printer. Owned it in the past, and it had been a nightmare. Would not pick ut even for free.

I am so over HP printers. Print quality across all ink jet brands is within 1% of each other. Get what has the best value on operating costs over time, not simply what costs the least upfront. You will find that HP fails in that regard, and ink jets in general.

I have a little Canon color laser, bought from a deal on here for $120 during covid, and it has been solid, everything you want in a home printer. Off-brand toner on Amazon is very reasonable and doesn't make you consider buying a different printer when you need to buy more toner/ink.

My aunt has this printer. It was a beach to set up, and they do have subscription model. I'd never recommend inkjets anyway.

Is it worth it just for the non printing functions- scan, fax, etc?

I'll never forget when a co-worker flexed that he was automatically getting replacement HP cartridges on a subscription 🤣 I just smiled and nodded.

If you're a member of Costco or Sam's Club, check there for sales as the tank-style printers they sell will typically come with an extra free bottle or two of black ink for free. That said, HP has lost my trust with their shenanigans of forcing updates on their customers that block using non-HP ink in models that were able to. I've had good luck with Brother Inkvestment line or Epson if you buy it somewhere (like Costco) that has a good, long warranty.
