There's a couple of features you don't get with Switch 1, like Settlements and I think multiplayer. But it is perfectly serviceable on Switch 1. That being said even though it's impressive on the Switch 1 that they got it working it's kind of like playing the Witcher 3 on Switch 1. Yes, it works, and it works pretty well. But, you'd be better served playing on more modern platforms. If the Switch is all you have right now, I say go for it because you can just upgrade it for free later. If you have a PC or another modern platform like Xbox Series X or PS5 I'd probably play it there instead, but you obviously lose portability.

Thanks so much for this, it is extremely helpful. I definitely fall into the 'have a switch and may upgrade to switch 2 in the future' so I am definitely in for one. Even though I have a PC (that admittedly hasn't been used in a minute) I think the probable switch 2 upgrade at some point and having a physical copy tilt in favor of purchasing on this platform - I do have a quest 3 and I think I remember hearing/seeing something about playing in VR but that feels insignifcant for me (surely if it comes up I can always buy it on steam during a summer sale so it can sit along side all those other unplayed games laugh out loud)

Also, NMS has cross save ability - so if you have it on PS5/XBox/PC you can open the save on your Switch 2 - only issue with it is that updates can sometimes take a.week or to come to Switch 2 after the others and old saves will get broken. (reportedly, I haven't done it yet - my Switch 2 copy is on the way)
