This AcuRite wireless fridge and freezer thermometer is a practical way to keep tabs on aging appliances and catch temperature problems early. It has strong range, with the display staying connected even when the freezer is on another floor, and the batteries can last for years. The alarm is useful, and the setup has helped prevent food waste. The main caveats are that clearing stored high and low readings is less intuitive, the two sensors can differ by about 2 to 5 degrees, and lithium batteries are a better fit for freezer use.

I have the "Craftsman" branded version of this. Looks exactly the same and it does what it says. No issues with mine after several years of use. Put the display in front of one of my security cameras in the house so I can remotely see the temp of my aging fridge/freezer. 😂
Same, got it from Lowes from a slick deals post a few years ago. I am in for two more.

Home assistant + a USB RTL-SDR dongle. The sensors transmit on 433.92MHz.

Beware, that Acurite sensors don't have a unique hardcoded id, and it gets auto-generated by RTL433 library each time you reconnect (change the battery, etc)
You can get around it by setting up a wildcard (+) in MQTT state topic, but this would only work if you only have one pair of such sensors.

state_topic: rtl_433/nnnnnnnn-rtl433/devices/Acurite-515/AR/+/temperature_C # main camera
state_topic: rtl_433/nnnnnnnn-rtl433/devices/Acurite-515/AF/+/temperature_C # freezer

If you have another fridge to monitor - get a different model (i.e. Acurite-986) to avoid conflicts.

have this real one and the old sears rebranded one. they both work great. though just make sure you know what the alarm sounds like so when it does go off you know and dont have to hunt around to see what is slarming.

Hope their new version can be a smart one that notifies you via phone notification
If you already use Home Assistant, I would recommend the SwitchBot thermometer. $12 each or 3 for $31: https://www.amazon.com/SwitchBot-...B0BVZC9Q31
It's small and the AAA batteries last a while.

I have this and it works great. Saved my butt a few times.
hmmm....I think you're supposed to put this in your fridge, not your butt. But if it works, it works!
