The 12VHPWR connection requirement still has me on the fence.

On a 5070? I've never seen anything other than a 90 series GPU have any issues.

True

and also, pretty sure newer PSU and cable design fixed the issue. The original cabling was bad but I thought it was a fixed soon after.

Wrong, they are still having issues. A big YT guy just had one melt with new high end cables a month ago.

lol he got a new one as a replacement, must be nic.

Well I've been getting the HP and Lenovo ones which are out of stock often, perhaps they are "newer" builds and not 5090's that were early builds in circulation. Since it's newer deliveries, maybe there were some changes in the cabling? I usually seat it pretty well if I move them around. Fingers crossed.

I'd be wary about getting older uses ones.

Loose cabling seems llike the major cause and I don't use the pigtail setup, I have a direct to PSU connection also

Seems like the new ones has a color helper lol - if you see purple near connector, it's not seated propely.

Seems like there are light indicator's now also.
