As a Korean I can tell you this is one of the most popular instant noodles. Probably on par with Bulldak. Best to be enjoyed with Kimchi or Danmuji (Japanese pickled radish). Watch for high sodium intake though

Not all Jjajang Ramen Noodles are the same, some have sauce packets and some like these have powder mix that you have to watch to get your water ratio right. The sauce packet ones are much better tasting and easier to make.

Preference is subjective, but as an adventurous eating white dude, this flavor was pretty disgusting. Like a sweet molasses flavored ramen. Would not buy again. Just know what you're getting and don't buy on a whim.

A lot of asian cultures use a style of fermented bean pastes that have a sweet/savory flavor combination.
Though I'm feeling, with the tone of your message, that the "adventurous eating white dude" self description is a bit of a detractor, not a value add, to your opinion (I say that as a keep-my-opinions-to-myself kinda white dude).
