Why is this a deal? Are not nearly all versions of this always about $100?

Except for when it's regularly priced at $169.99?

Over-inflated retail price. Very few buy pancake compressors for $170. They are probably all made in the same factory and are all regularly available for between $80 (Northern Tool) and $120 (HD) when not on sale. Less when on frequent sale and routinely offered in combo packages with a couple of nail guns and hose for $150 or so.
$170 for just the compressor/tank is only for people shopping with soon-to-expire gift cards. Personally, I prefer the higher-quality and much quieter California Air Tools versions. I do have a 6gallon pancake compressor, but normally use this one, https://www.homedepot.com/p/Calif.../300500747, which is more than adequate for my nailers and other homeowner projects. Much quieter and easier to lug around

Bought my first compressor in a bundle on a slickdeal nearly 20yrs ago. Never had an issue and still works to this day. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware there was a need to drain water from the tank. Failed the tap test so I went out and got a new one this week. Almost bought this but spent the extra $20 on the Ridgid since it's the same one I bought years ago. Comes with lifetime warranty when registered online. Probably will last a lifetime as long as you store it in a shed or garage and drain the water after every use.

It might be worth buying this model for $20 less if you need one now and don't already own a hose or attachments.

Not a bad deal for this - good reviews and reasonable price for a mid-grade unit. picked one up
