Ordered one, pretty good quality. Unfortunately mine came scraped up from shipping (cosmetic). It came in (3) separate boxes, probably 80-90 lbs each. I let that slide, but also the component which rides the (2) stainless rails was jammed with metal shavings and paper. When I inserted the rails, the bearings felt out of the bottom. Amazon gave me a partial refund and Waxman stepped up and is sending me a replacement part!

Just curious, what's the benefit of this machine over a power cage and barbell where you can do back squats?

I'm no expert, but you feel hack squats more in your booty and hammy's/calves. I believe it's beneficial to do both hack squats and back squats so you target your quads too.

I have a bunch of equipment in my house and just find myself using dumbbells and kettle bells the most.

You're correct, but to add to what you've said, if you place your feet near the bottom/rear of the plate, you will be working more of your quads and less of your hamstrings. Subsequently, if you move your feet near the top/front of the plate, you'll be working more on hamstrings than quads.
I have not used this exact machine, but hack squats are in my leg day rotation.

No. Lower foot placement might shift a little more work toward the quads, while higher placement may bring the glutes in a bit more. But the difference is pretty small, and neither one suddenly turns the leg press or hack squat into a hamstring exercise.

Also, if you're old with shitty ankle and shoulder mobility, back squats can be more trouble than they're worth.

What are you going on about?? A hack squat is a quad dominant exercise.
You should feel your glutes and hamstrings more in a back squat than a hack squat.

More at leg pressing than other muscles. It isolates against gravity (targeting against aspects of balance). But it will give your legs super strength, which can motivate to do other exercises related. But unnatural muscles in the sense of perfect movements (ie free weights better).
As other users have chimed, help some ppl with other issues and by strengthening the body part that has the most natural strength can provide for other exercises.
