I bought this and the Acton III during the recent sale. This is going back as I am keeping the Acton. This speaker does put out a lot of bass but it is low quality bloated bass. There is a severe lack of midrange and even midbass so songs sound hollow and lack impact. The Acton, in comparison, is much better composed, with far superior tonal balance. The bass extension is also similar between the two speakers. The Stanmore can certainly get louder, but the poor sound quality it produces is just really distracting. I bought the Stanmore first and actually was quite disappointed on hearing it. I then purchased the Acton to try it out and it is just a better sounding speaker.

Anything stopping me from pairing this with a big inverter and bolting it down the the middle of my van for an instant audio system?

More than one review I've read shared the exact same opinion that you have.

Overpriced for a name that isn't the same as the amps they used to make not in Vietnam.
