I got two of these last month. I really like the cans, but one of them had a leak at the weld on top. Vevor gave me half a refund - to cover the one that leaks. I really like the spout too.

How heavy are they when empty?

The state of California is doing you a favor. Go by authentic NATO cans. It will only cost five times as much but it will be worth it.

How are these better than the plastic ones for 1/3 of the price? Honest question, and "overlanding cred" is never a valid answer Smilie

For most people the less expensive plastic ones will be just as good if not better. If you really need a heavy duty can, you should really get an authentic NATO can that you can rely on.

That's basically what it boils down to. These might be more resistant to puncturing but they're also significantly heavier. ~16 pounds each according to Vevor.. vs a plastic tank at maybe 3 pounds

My favorite go-to gas tanks are these Easy Cans: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Easy-.../301697278
They make a 5 gallon variant too but they're not as widely available. I've had my older 2.5g can for ~8 years now and all I've ever had to do with it was oil up the thumb button after it started sticking a bit last year.

I have the Harbor freight version of this made by Mid West Can. going on ~6 years no issues. I have 2 old plastic can and over time if stored in a garage in hot southern locations like Texas they will swell and deform. Again the Mid West Cans are clearly labeled "Military Like" not true NATO version. Vevor might be a clone...just seems way too cheap, wonder what corners were cut.

Metal cans are required for some construction sites and industrial usage for their increased durability, puncture resistance, and because they aren't prone to static electricity build up possibly leading to ignition like in the plastic cans.

They're definitely better in quite a few ways, but will eventually rust.

If gasoline is being stored in a freestanding detached shed, whatever, if in your garage or the cans will see frequent transport in vehicles, maybe spring for metal.

I bought these as well - in green since reds were not on sale. The locking mechanism is poorly designed - keeps popping off - so I just removed them. Overall decent purchase for the coming zombie apocalypse. I added stabilizer to each can. I would primarily use these for my tractor/gas yard equipment.

Removing the spring helps a ton, much more usable.

Anyone: my five gallon , large, four, year old, plastic container has a 3.5 inch, straight gash/sash near the near bottom,on the side. Something had to hit it to cause that..can it be repaired or not?
