I tested an Acemagic unit last year, and one of the sub-branded units (Kamrui) this spring. Both contained the same RedLine based clone. It's current, not whatever nonsense AI has gleaned from articles and videos from a couple years ago. This specific manufacturer is the worst offender, not just that they were caught, but they immediately turned to an astroturfing campaign. They are heavily incentivizing misinformation with techtubers, etc. to regain sales in the US. Again, I'm a retire hardware industry analyst, and near 40 years in PC repair. I am not a cybersecurity guy, and I'm not writing a guide here as "proof". Mini PCs are a tiny market segment, but they do come in, and these I specifically test for all kinds of malware (RedLine, Lumma, Smoke Loader, Amadey, etc.) when I see them (I'm not letting them anywhere near a private network of mine). They create a new sub-brand every time I turn around, since it is just a matter of time before they are sanctioned and banned from sale in the US. In the meantime, expect most mini PC reviews on youtube to be about them, most deals to be about them, and the most vocal defenders to be about them.
I believe your findings about the malware baked into their supplied Windows, and personally I would never run that OS 'preloaded' from ANY manufacturer. Full (entire disk) wipe and fresh install *IF* I were to ever use that M$slop. I'm specifically looking for evidence/experience of your "it's trivial to kit out firmware to make malware permanent" claim here.
It's great that you post those warnings directed at the novice users that are prone to run whatever comes preloaded. Not trying to be adversarial here, I would truly like to know about the bios/firmware claim(s).
Thank you.
That's it, just throw a perfectly good mini pc to the landfill, can't save it. All the ram and silicon, just trash.
