This GarveeHome 12,000 BTU mini split is a budget heat pump that stands out for strong cooling, quiet operation, and lower power use than window or portable units. Real-world installs describe easy DIY setup for handy owners, with precharged condenser refrigerant, preflared lines, and heating that can hold up well in cold weather. The main drawbacks are the lack of WiFi on this model, the need for vacuuming and careful electrical work, and some concern about shipping damage or early failures. It looks like a solid value if you are comfortable with the install.

Common Questions (5)

  • At minimum, commenters mention a vacuum pump, 410A adapters or hoses, and basic hand tools; some also recommend a vacuum gauge, Nylog Blue, and a torque wrench for better flare connections. Several note that the condenser is pre-charged, but the lines still need to be evacuated before refrigerant is released.

  • Yes, it should be wired on a dedicated circuit, and the 115V version still needs the correct breaker and wire size. Comments mention using two breaker slots for 220V models, and one user warns that some 115V units have a surprisingly high minimum circuit ampacity, so checking the nameplate before wiring is important.

  • It is more efficient than a typical window unit and much quieter in the room, while also providing heat because it is a heat pump. The main tradeoff is the install work, but users describe lower power draw, better sealing, and no need to remove it seasonally.

  • It does not appear to include Wi‑Fi on this model. App-based control is mentioned for some Garvee units, but this specific deal is called out as having no Wi‑Fi, so buyers wanting remote scheduling or silent mode from an app should verify the exact version first.

  • For someone with mechanical or electrical experience, it can be a manageable DIY job; first-timers with little hands-on experience may struggle. The hardest parts mentioned are drilling the wall correctly, keeping the line-set cover straight without kinking copper, and handling the vacuum/evacuation steps in the right order.

Based on the reviews and technical information I could find, I'd describe the GarveeHome 12,000 BTU 115V 19 SEER2 mini split as a decent budget unit, but not one I'd buy if long-term reliability is your top priority.

Customer reviews

The feedback is mixed:

Positives

* Cools and heats well for most owners.
* Quiet indoor unit.
* Good efficiency (19 SEER2).
* Attractive price—often several hundred dollars less than established brands.

Negatives

* Multiple reports of shipping damage (dented condensers/cabinets).
* A handful of reports of early failures (days to a couple of months).
* Customer service appears to be inconsistent compared with brands like Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu, Gree, or Pioneer.

Anything but Mr. Cool requires you to have the HVAC tools, which will run you around $1k for everything. From what I've read up on, it's worth it if you're planning on doing a lot of installs. For a one off, it's a big investment (still cheaper than hiring someone), but it will run you around the same as a Mr. Cool and you'll just have a lot of tools sitting around afterwards. The big gotcha is that most of these companies don't offer warranties to DIY installs and most HVAC companies won't want to service them. Warranty coverage usually requires at least the line vacuum and refrigerant release to be done by someone who's licensed. I've heard of some people getting by it with an EPA 608 certification, but it's inconsistent.
While Mr Cool is just that, I think what you are looking for is just precharged units

Be very aware of the voltage difference. Tried to return this and they wanted me to ship it across the country which would cost more than the unit itself. The company supposedly is 30 minutes from my house...

You dont need a refrigerant pump for this
You do to vacuum the lines before you release the refrigerant.

These are considerably more efficient, both in functionality as well as cost, than window units

I have a 18k 230v garvee. was $599 on amazon.

install was pretty easy, just need a vacuum pump. the wifi app is literally useless so dont worry about having that feature.

all of these cheap units are the same, these are the same as costway. just relabled.

It depends on several things. How many panels? How big are the panels? Do you have a charge controller? Do you have a battery and a good pure sine power inverter? Not to mention wiring. Or you might be talking about a DC mini split unit, which are more expensive. It might be easier, cheaper, and safer to hire someone

I've installed several and the last two have been going for 4 years without requiring any refrigerant or service. At a minimum you need a good vacuum pump and vacuum gauge. I would recommend a nitrogen pressure test if you're doing heating since the operating pressures are much higher. It seems easy to install but micro leaks can drain your refrigerant over 2-3 years easily and/or break the compressor if not perfect. Most people will then blame the manufacturer instead of themselves at that point.

The only "hvac tool" i needed was a harbor freight refrigerant pump and it was $120 with the R410 adapters I needed. The Garvee condenser is pre-charged, the only difference between this and MR cool is that the lines are not pre-charged w/aeroquip easy connect fittings. I did the 220V circuit w/ surge suppressor, rated box myself along with the entire remainder of the install for $900 total including the unit itself.
You should be able to debt pumps at auto part stores for free. Adapters probably aren't included though.
