This GarveeHome 12,000 BTU mini split is a budget heat pump that stands out for strong cooling, quiet operation, and lower power use than window or portable units. Real-world installs describe easy DIY setup for handy owners, with precharged condenser refrigerant, preflared lines, and heating that can hold up well in cold weather. The main drawbacks are the lack of WiFi on this model, the need for vacuuming and careful electrical work, and some concern about shipping damage or early failures. It looks like a solid value if you are comfortable with the install.

Anything but Mr. Cool requires you to have the HVAC tools, which will run you around $1k for everything. From what I've read up on, it's worth it if you're planning on doing a lot of installs. For a one off, it's a big investment (still cheaper than hiring someone), but it will run you around the same as a Mr. Cool and you'll just have a lot of tools sitting around afterwards. The big gotcha is that most of these companies don't offer warranties to DIY installs and most HVAC companies won't want to service them. Warranty coverage usually requires at least the line vacuum and refrigerant release to be done by someone who's licensed. I've heard of some people getting by it with an EPA 608 certification, but it's inconsistent.
I slick-dealed everything I needed for two or three hundred

If its your only source of heat, you'll want a cold climate or "Hyper Heat" setup. The standard units don't heat well below 25 F. I have to use a space heater in my apt when it gets really cold which is pretty short lived here thankfully.

eta Sorry quoted the wrong post but I'll leave it at that. Other post said you can use a mini split for heat.
Depends on where you live. I'm in Arizona so I barely, if ever use the heat. And definitely don't need heat below 25F so most mini splits will work fine here. If you live in a cold climate then yes, get one that works when it's 15 below.

Why would you install 220v electrical?
Three thumbs down from my last comment, but this unit is 115v... am I missing something?

can you hook this up to solar panels/inverters like Youtube "solar AC" videos? Trying to cool a garage but save on power+electrician costs
Yes, absolutely. You do need a battery bank and inverter to power this. If you want it to run only on solar that is all you need, probably 15-1800w of panels would be sufficient for use when the sun is out. If you want to subsidize some power with the use of solar, but always want the ability to run the ac, you will need an automatic transfer switch that will automatically switch from your inverter to the grid when the battery bank gets too low to power the ac. The 115v ATS isn't too expensive, there are options under $100 on amazon

These Garvee units, if they are like mine, they have an option in the app to adjust the max power draw. You'd still need to configure with an inverter and battery combo most likely since it's not a DC unit but it would be an option to turn it down if needed although it won't cool as well.
On the ROVSUN it is GEN mode/option and you get set 30%, 50%, 80% power reduction, on the Garvee app it just called power limit.

Some auto parts stores will let you rent the vacuum pump for free.
Yes, but the $10 oil you should refill because either leaking out from the last one using it. You need the whole bottle

Isn't SEER 19 actually pretty low efficiency for these modern inverter-based units?

I just installed a Garvee 18K unit myself two weeks ago. Works mint, blows ice cold. Just a FYI.
What's thr Amp requirement did you run dedicated line?

I'm pretty sure these have wifi to connect to the app. It's not local though, you need the cloud. If you want to use Home Assistant completely locally, there is a way but it requires a dongle and you to set it up correctly.
Did you run a dedicated line for this or just extended from a 110v outlet to this?

He may have been asking because they make a 230v option.

There are advantages to going with a 230v system. One being you can upgrade to a larger system.

A lot of people that want 120v systems do not plan on running a dedicated circuit.

If you're running a new circuit and have open spaces, you should just go with a 230v circuit. The cost difference is negligible and requires the same amount of work.

I'm so angry this was $347 during prime day. I wish I had purchased a couple of these.

I watched a few youtube videos on installation. I concluded I am not handy enough to go through the entire process - my current best/cheapest option is getting a 2 hose portable AC.
99.9% You're better off with a window unit.
The portables are horribly inefficient.
