While these are probably fixed, some units still fry themselves if you don't do a complicated bootloader update.

Worse, some who I know are experts have had units brick during the patch.

FWIW, even major brands do that at times. I've had Asus brick (the expensive one), Linksys, etc.

Indeed, but it's rare for there to be a U-Boot fix, and then the fix itself also can brick the unit.

Even worse, the JTAG connector is extremely easy to break. So if you don't bicker with GLI, and try to fix it yourself, you can wind up damaging it - then they blame you.

Frankly GLI should warranty this issue for the next five years.

Mine had that U-boot issue and they were very helpful in fixing it remotely.
